Banyuwangi Regency History

Banyuwangi Regency History

Historical data is available, throughout history Blambangan presumably dated December 18, 1771 is the oldest historical events that should be appointed as the anniversary of Banyuwangi. Before the war Puputan Bayu peak is actually no other events that preceded it, which also heroic-patriotic, that the attack on the fighters under the command of Prince Blambangan Puger (son Wong Supreme Willis) to Banyualit VOC fort in 1768.

But unfortunately these events are not recorded in full pertanggalannya, and besides it was impressed that in the attack we lost total, while the enemy is hardly suffered any loss. On this occasion the Prince Puger fall, being Wong Supreme Willis, after Lateng destroyed, wounded, captured and then banished to the island of Banda (Lekkerkerker, 1923).
Based on historical data Banyuwangi name can not be separated by keajayaan Blambangan. Since the time of Prince Tawang Alun (1655-1691) and Prince Danuningrat (1736-1763), even up when Blambangan is under the protection of Bali (1763-1767), the VOC had never been attracted to enter and manage Blambangan (Ibid.1923: 1045 ).
In 1743 East Java (including Blambangan) submitted by Pakubuwono II to the VOC, the VOC was Blambangan is already his. But for the time being is still allowed as property, which will be administered at any time, when it is needed. Even when Danuningrat memina VOC assistance to escape from Bali, the VOC was not interested in looking into Blambangan (Ibid 1923: 1046).
But then after Britain established trade relations with Blambangan and set up trade offices (complex Inggrisan now) in 1766 in the small town of Banyuwangi (which at that time also called Tirtaganda, Tirtaarum or Toyaarum), then VOC immediately move to immediately seize and secure all Banyuwangi Blambangan. Generally in peprangan that occurred in 1767-1772 (5 years), the VOC did try to seize the entire Blambangan. But specifically the actual VOC compelled to immediately seize Banyuwangi, which at that time had begun to develop into a center of trade in Blambangan, who have mastered English.
It is obvious, that the birth of a place Yag later became known by the name of Banyuwangi, has become a case-purchase devastating wars, war Puputan Bayu. In the event that the UK is not entrenched in Banyuwangi in 1766, probably VOC will not rush to expansion into Blambangan in 1767. And since the war Puputan Bayu probably will not happen (peak) on December 18, 1771. Thus, there must be a relationship close war Puputan Bayu with the birth of a place called Banyuwangi. In other words, war Puputan Bayu is a part of the birth process Banyuwangi. Therefore, the determination of the date of December 18, 1771 as the anniversary of Banyuwangi actually very rational.

 LEGEND OF THE ORIGINS BANYUWANGI
